Our church DNA is captured in the formula WRP4. It’s our conviction that in passionately pursuing the elements of this formula, a man or woman will grow into a completely committed follower of Jesus. The practices articulated here have been with the Church since its very inception. We see them littered throughout the pages of the New Testament. In this space, we’ve already rehearsed the “WRP” of Worship, Reading Scripture, and Prayer. In June, we entered into the “4” with the practice of Inviting people into a saving relationship with Jesus.
For July, I want you to focus on Discipling. To be a disciple is to be a learner, a pupil, an apprentice. Hence, to be a disciple of Jesus is to be an apprentice of Jesus. As a church, we should help each other to learn better how to follow the ways of Jesus. We should teach and be taught His commandments, and we should walk together in His ways.
At Eastside, we offer several ways for this discipling relationship to happen. Our foremost means of discipleship takes place in small groups (join one!). Others include Sunday, Tuesday (ladies), Wednesday Bible studies, Thursday (Senior Seekers), fellowship opportunities, and various chances to minister. So, I challenge you to consider this: (1) How are you being taught or teaching the commandments of Jesus? (2) How are you learning to live the Jesus Way?
