Eric was born and raised in Terre Haute, and was baptized at the age of 12. His father Bob also served as a deacon at Eastside. Eric met his wife Nola, who was from Los Angeles, California, during a week of camp at Camp Wabashi. They began dating in 1980, and married in 1982. They have two sons, Adam and Evan. Eric likes to watch racing and basketball, and he enjoys teaching the middle school students at Eastside a quarter or two a year.
Gordy was born in Terre Haute and his wife Polly in Indianapolis. Gordy came to faith and was baptized in 1984 in Brownsburg, Indiana. Polly was raised in the Church of Christ. They met through mutual friends while attending Indiana State University and were married at Eastside in 1985. They have been members at Eastside since 1990. Gordy said, “Eastside was an immediate fit with many wonderful and caring members—we are extremely happy at Eastside.” They have two sons, Taylor and Riley. Gordy’s hobbies include golf, reading, ISU basketball and traveling. Polly enjoys baking, reading, taking care of her family and traveling.
Steve was raised in Hazel Dell, Illinois and was baptized when he was 11. He met his wife Ruth at age 17 on a blind date. They married in 1964. At age 18 he moved to Peoria, IL to work at a company where he stayed for 43 years. Steve and Ruth have three children, Bryan, Bradley and Lisa, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. In 2007, he retired and moved to Terre Haute to be close to his relatives in Greenup, Illinois. They became members at Eastside in 2010. His hobbies include wood working, metal working and gardening.
Phil and his wife Rachel grew up in New Mexico and met in high school. They were married in 1987, and have two sons, Wesley and Stephen. Phil became a Christian in 1982, and has been attending Eastside since 1989. Phil, in addition to being our Deacon of College Ministries, teaches the college-age Bible classes at Eastside. He enjoys reading and watching movies.
Frank was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. He enlisted in the Army at age 17 and became a Green Beret where he served for 4 ½ years. After leaving the military he began hitchhiking across the country for a year. When he got to Terre Haute, he was walking on US 40 and was picked up by two Rose-Hulman students who invited Frank to church at Eastside. After intense Bible studies, he was baptized two weeks later at age 24. He began dating Glenda, who also attended Eastside, two months after he was baptized. They were married in 1988. They have two grown daughters, Rachael and Sara. Frank’s hobbies include martial arts, where he is a fifth-degree black belt, and working out.
Wayne and Tomi Padgett have been at Eastside for over twenty years. Both grew up and became Christians in Alabama. They came to Terre Haute when Wayne began teaching Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. They homeschool their two teenage children. Wayne is a deacon with responsibility for missions. He has organized one engineering mission trip to Panama and hopes to return. He also helps manage our Youth Protection Policy. Wayne enjoys camping and old science fiction movies.
Mike was born and raised in Terre Haute. His wife Doreen is from Washingtonville, New York. They met in college and began dating in 1995. They married in 1997. They have 3 children: Amanda, Karen, and Martin. Doreen initially came to Eastside in search of a church after being disillusioned with the scandals occurring in the Catholic church. After she told Mike of finding a church in search of the truth, she brought him. When Mike walked in the door, he saw Phil Cornwell, who was one of his professors at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and he immediately felt comfortable here. He and Doreen have been sponges in the Word and are an inspiration to many here. They love to take the family camping as their hobby.
Ed and his wife Sandy were both born and raised in Logansport, Indiana. Ed was baptized at the age of 18 and Sandy at 11. They met at the Yorktown Road Church of Christ and were married in 1970. Ed was drafted into the Army and is a Vietnam veteran. Upon his return, they moved to Fort Stewart, Georgia for a year, before returning to Logansport. They took jobs in Terre Haute in 1988. They visited around the other churches before becoming members at Eastside in 1991. They have two grown sons, Jeremy and Jason, and 3 grandchildren. Ed’s hobbies include all sports.
